Positions Currently Available at DEW: CarpenterPosted: September 12 Skilled position with responsibilities that include work in the alteration, repair, maintenance and new construction of structures in the commercial construction industry, equipment and articles of wood, fiber board and other material. Duties include building rough wooden structures for a variety of uses according to sketches, blueprints, or oral instruction. Must be skilled in all aspects of the construction industry including blueprint reading and oral instruction. May acquire skills through job training, formal training programs, vocational education or apprenticeships. Carpenter Helper Responsibilities involve helping carpenters by performing duties of lesser skill. Duties include using, supplying or holding materials or tools, and cleaning work area and equipment under the direction and supervision of a skilled carpenter or site manager. Unskilled position, receive on the job training or may participate in formal training programs. Estimators Responsibilities involve the ability to read a set of plans and specifications and determine the estimated total cost of the construction project. Must also be able to perform quantity take-off on all materials. Estimator must develop and maintain ongoing subcontractor and supplier relationships. Duties involve participation in the conceptual development of a construction project and the ability to convey the concept to the construction team. Foreman Responsibilities involve assisting project superintendents in coordinating activities of construction trades workers and their helpers. This would also include coordinating activities for self performed work. Duties include first-line supervising and scheduling daily activities, reporting to Project Superintendent. Project Manager Responsibilities involve procurement, subcontract award, cost/change management, conflict resolution, planning, directing, coordinating, and budgeting activities concerned with the construction and maintenance of commercial structures, facilities, and systems. Duties involve participation in the conceptual development of a construction project and overseeing its organization, scheduling, and implementation. Project manager works directly with owners, architects, project superintendent and subcontractors. Must have complete knowledge of job specific plans and specifications. Duties also includes maintaining project schedule with project superintendent. Project Superintendent Responsibilities involve planning, scheduling, directing and coordinating daily project field activities. Responsibilities also include a thorough knowledge of job specific plans and specifications. Project superintendent also needs to coordinate and work with owners, architects and onsite subcontractors.
